What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency

Not every plumbing problem needs someone out at 2am. Some genuinely do, and waiting until Monday turns a repair into a renovation. Here’s how we’d sort it.

Ring us now

  • Sewage backing up into the shower, the toilet or the overflow gully outside. That’s a health risk as well as a plumbing one.
  • A burst pipe or a pipe you can hear running inside a wall or under the floor. Every minute is water going somewhere it shouldn’t.
  • No water at all to the house.
  • Water near electrics — a leak into a ceiling, near a switchboard, or around power points.
  • You can smell gas. Turn the gas off at the meter, open the windows, don’t touch light switches, and ring us.
  • Hot water leaking from the tank rather than from a tap or a pipe.

Same day, but it can wait a few hours

  • One blocked drain or toilet, where the rest of the house still drains.
  • No hot water, with nothing leaking.
  • A dripping tap or a running toilet cistern.
  • A slow drain that’s getting worse but hasn’t stopped.

If you’re not sure which one you’ve got, ring us and describe it. We’ll tell you honestly whether it needs someone tonight or whether it’ll keep until morning.

What to Do Before We Get There

Two minutes now can save a lot of damage.

Turn the water off

The main tap is usually at the front of the property near the water meter, often in a green or black box in the lawn or garden bed. Turn it clockwise until it stops. For a leak under one fixture, there’s often a smaller isolation tap right there.

If it’s gas, turn it off at the meter

Quarter turn on the lever so it sits across the pipe rather than along it. Open doors and windows. Don’t use light switches, don’t light anything, and get everyone outside if the smell is strong.

If water is near electrics

Turn the power off at the switchboard if you can reach it safely and dry. If you can’t reach it without walking through water, don’t. Wait for us.

Move what you can

Rugs, furniture, anything on the floor near the water. Photograph the damage before you clean it up if you’re likely to claim on insurance.

Emergency Plumbing We Handle

Burst and leaking pipes

We find the leak, isolate it, and repair it properly rather than patching it so it fails again next winter. Leaks inside walls and under slabs we locate without digging up the whole yard.

Blocked sewers and drains

High pressure jet blasting to clear it, then a CCTV camera down the line to find out why it happened. Most recurring blockages turn out to be tree roots in a cracked pipe, and clearing it without finding that means you’ll be ringing someone again in six months.

Sewage overflows

The overflow gully outside is designed to let sewage out there rather than inside the house. If it’s overflowing, the blockage is past that point and it needs clearing now.

Blocked toilets

If it’s the only toilet in the house it’s an emergency whatever time it is. If every drain in the house is slow at the same time, it’s not the toilet, it’s the sewer line.

Hot water failures

A leaking tank needs the system isolated before it damages the floor. No hot water with nothing leaking can usually wait until morning, and we’ll tell you if that’s what you’ve got.

Gas leaks

Licensed gas fitting, leak detection and repair. Gas is not something to wait on.

Storm and stormwater

Blocked stormwater drains, overflowing pits and flooded driveways after heavy rain. Sydney storms find every blocked drain in the suburb at once.

Why People Ring Us Rather Than a Franchise

You get Angelo, not a call centre. Ring the number and you’re speaking to the plumber who’ll turn up, not a dispatcher reading from a script in another state.

No franchise fees on your invoice. We’re independent and locally owned. The big franchise names load their fees into the price you pay, and you’re the one paying for it.

A clear price before we start. We look at the problem, tell you what it’ll cost, and you decide. No surprises when the invoice arrives, and no call out fee just for turning up.

We fix the cause, not just the symptom. Clearing a blockage without finding out why it blocked means you’ll be ringing someone again. The camera goes down the line so you know what you’re dealing with.

Licensed and insured, every job. Licence No. 299307c, and all gas work carried out by a licensed gas fitter.

Clear Pricing, No Surprises

There is no call out fee, and you get a clear price before any work begins. What the job costs depends on what’s actually wrong and how hard it is to get to, so we diagnose it first, then tell you the price, then you decide.

Pensioner discounts are available. No franchise fees loaded onto your invoice, and no surprises when it arrives.

What Our Customers Say

After a terrible experience with a different plumbing company, Angelo of Cesco Plumbing was recommended to me. Angelo was extremely thorough in diagnosis, faultless in communication and very considerate in what were very trying circumstances. Not only did Angelo fix my bathroom, he was very reasonably priced. I will forever extol the virtues of Cesco Plumbing to anyone looking for an honest, reliable and skilled plumber.
— Kylie Moulds

We use Angelo’s team to service our vulnerable clients (aged and disabled) and we trust he will always do excellent work, does not overcharge and only does work that is required to be done. Can’t recommend them enough.

Emergency Plumbing Questions

Do you really answer at 2am?

Yes. Ring the number any hour and you’ll get Angelo. If you’re ringing at 2am it’s because something has gone properly wrong, and that’s exactly when you need someone to pick up.

How quickly can you get here?

We aim to be at your property within 60 minutes, depending on where you are and what else is on. Being locally based rather than a franchise means we’re not dispatching someone from the other side of Sydney.

Do you charge a call out fee?

No. You get a clear price before any work starts, and pensioner discounts are available.

Do you charge more after hours?

You’ll be told the price before we start, whatever the hour. No surprises on the invoice.

Is this actually an emergency, or can it wait?

Ring us and describe it. If it can wait until morning we’ll say so rather than charging you for an after hours call. Sewage backing up, a burst pipe, no water at all, water near electrics or a gas smell all mean ring now.

Where is my water main tap?

Usually at the front of the property near the water meter, often in a green or black box set into the lawn or garden bed. Turn it clockwise to shut the water off. Worth finding it now rather than at midnight in the rain.

My whole house is draining slowly, what does that mean?

If every drain is slow at once it’s not one fixture, it’s the main sewer line. That usually means a blockage or tree roots past the point where everything joins up. It needs clearing before it backs up into the house.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Licence No. 299307c, licensed and insured in NSW, with all gas work carried out by a licensed gas fitter.

Will you find out why it happened?

If it’s a blockage, yes. We put a CCTV camera down the line after clearing it so you can see what caused it. Most recurring problems turn out to be tree roots in a cracked pipe, and clearing it without finding that means it’ll happen again.

Do you work weekends and public holidays?

24 hours, 7 days, all year.
